About the Author
Wilbert J. McKeachie is Professor Emeritus and former chair of the Department of Psychology at the University of Michigan. He is also a research scientist and past director of the University of Michigan Center for Research on Learning and Teaching. He has served as president of the American Psychological Association and of the American Association for Higher Education. He has also served as chair of the Committee on College and University Teaching, Research, and Publication of the American Association of University Professors. He speaks at workshops and conferences around the world and has published numerous articles in the United States and internationally.

Marilla Svinicki is Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology and the retired director of the Center for Teaching Effectiveness at the University of Texas at Austin. She earned both her B.A. and M.A. at Western Michigan University and her Ph.D. at the University of Colorado. Her research interests include application of principles of learning to instruction in higher education and development of faculty and graduate students as teachers. She regularly teaches the college teaching methodology course at UT Austin along with the psychology of human learning and instructional psychology.

No Nonsense Teacher's Aid

As an adjunct instructor, this McKeachie book has provided me with some very valuable tools in the classroom. I use the strategies and perspectives in my own classroom to help manage the diverse group of students from millenials to boomers. It is like an academic mentor's advice for dealing with everything from problem students to creating more active learning environments for my students. I am embracing the fact that I am still learning (Goya's quote: aun aprendo)--just like my students. I am looking at the newer edition today for more class and pedagogy insights.

Great Resource

Great resource for those teaching at a college level or those thinking about teaching at a college level. I am a PhD student and this text was required for a teaching class I took. There are many things presented here that I never realized professors must to do teach a successful course. McKeachie provided ample examples and ideas to translate the ideas presented in this book into actions in the classroom. I will definitely be using this as a resource when I teach my own college-level classes.

This is a very valuable resource for anyone engaged in adult learning environments. This book served as a valuable resource in our faculty development program for new instructors, and was even found useful by those with more experience. I highly recommend this book for new adult educators.
