About the Author
D. T. Potts is Professor of Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology and History at the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World, New York University. He is the editor of The Oxford Handbook of Ancient Iran (2013) and the author of Nomadism in Iran: From Antiquity to the Modern Era (2014), as well as numerous other books and articles in scholarly journals.

Elam and elamites

This is an excellent book by a true expert in archeology and ancient Persia, not easy to find in English. The author uses all available sources, from written accounts of other nations or polities to archeological finds, to provide a history of Elam. There are many gaps in this history but these are not the fault of the author. Rather, these gaps are due to the paucity of material remains. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a scholarly source for information on Elam and Elamites.

What existed in Iran before Cyrus the Great?? I always wondered. I knew a little about the Elamites that had lived there, but not much. This book is the most extensive book on the subject of the Elamite people that occupied ancient Iran before the coming of the Persians that I have found. It is the result of pain staking archeological work that has been done there, a lot of it during the last 10 or so years. It is enlightening. I recommend it to anyone interested in pre Islamic Iran. Thank you Amazon for carrying such a critical work on Iranian history.
