Nothing wishy-washy, no glossing over of sin. Just old-school Catholic spirituality. One thing to bear in mind while reading is that it was written over 100 years ago, in England. Very definitely "pre-Vatican II", and it's a breath of fresh air from the past!

Two critical virtues....

This book was okay. It was broken into two sections, obviously on patience and humility. I do believe it got across the fundamental message that spiritual growth can only happen once we empty ourselves of pride and self-love. However, I felt it was a little disjointed in its approach--perhaps if it were more direct in offering suggestions on how to grow in these virtues as well giving examples of how famous people grew in these virtues, I would have found more meaning in it overall. Still, though, a good book for meditating on two important and hard-to-achieve virtues.

Robert W. Rydell is professor of history at Montana State University and served as John Adams Professor of American Civilization at the University of Amsterdam.


Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey (Frederick Douglass) was born a slave in Talbot County, Maryland. He took the name Douglass after escaping from the South in 1838.

As a leader in the abolitionist movement, Douglass was famed for his eloquent yet incisive political writing. And, like his near-contemporary, Booker T. Washington, understood the central importance of education in improving the lives of African Americans, and was therefore an early proponent of desegregation.

A firm believer in equal rights for all, Douglass attended a meeting of the National Council of Women in Washington, D.C., in the hours before his death in February 1895.

I am almost half way through the book and can actually understand what I am reading. The transparency makes for a positive experience. You don't need a PhD to understand the financial market.

Most investment books I've read are generally worthless, with the author's ego and business motives being the highlight. With Investing 101, I struck gold! It is a perfect lexicon of facts and information. It describes all the language & terminology, number and formulae, and strategies used by different investors. It's concise and easy to understand. The information provided has given me enough knowledge to begin trying investing on my own. Excellent resource.

Good book but how did it get so expensive.

Although some of the topics and the content is a bit outdated, it does a decent job of connecting the grammar part of the course with its cultural context. The author obviously spent quite of bit of time on the topics discussed.
I bought the book two semester ago and everywhere it was at half the price. i dont see why the author needed to jack up the price on us students. At $50 it is a good book but at $115+ it is too expensive. Where is my $65 going to? Books don't fluctuate that much on price at least not on the same edition. I dont know i just feel value isn't there for the price.

Mary Beth Robb is one of those rare people actually born in the fairyland also known as Hollywood CA. One would assume she has a fascination with things on screen but she doesn't. She has always adored stories. All kinds of stories, faery tales, adventure tales, tales of mystery so it was only natural that she would have to tell her own tales.

She is also an ordained Priestess in the Temple of Isis/Los Angeles and a practicing Druid. Someday she hopes to get it right. Meanwhile she spins dreams of the printed word and drawing with pen and ink.

For Children of All Ages!

After reading a few books that were anxiety producing I thought this one would help ease me to sleep. I let my inner child be read to by the text-to-speech as I followed along in the book. Mary Beth Robb writes her stories in an uncomplicated way while covering some deep spiritual issues. I would have loved to read this book to my children when they were young.

Reach out and take a chance, seemed to be the theme of this group of stories. Shy people need this kind of advice regardless of age. I loved the stories about the witch who was shy and the stories about the ribbons of love. How tactile the story was. In fact, all the stories involve all of the readers' senses as you move in life with the main characters of each story.

Learn about another point of view. If you have been raised in a certain religion here is a chance to learn how others have seen the world and life. Neither way is wrong. There is much to be learned from everyone. This would be a great place to start in learning about Paganism or Wiccan ways of life. These are the "Old Time Religions" the main theme of most religions I have seen is LOVE and acceptance. Ms. Robb's books seem to teach that is spade!

I was so happy that Kindle has the Kindle Unlimited way of reading books I can't afford. I hope the author gets a good financial kick-back from this. When I can afford them I will buy them. Maybe I will have them in time for grandchildren? Thanks for some awesome stories, Mary.
